The Significance of Refreshing Hardware
YourSix Supported Devices Policy
-
- Axis devices, actively supported by AXIS OS, that meet the minimum firmware requirements specified on yoursix.com.
- Devices are no longer supported once Axis Communications classifies them as “end-of-support.” End-of-support (EOS) devices will no longer receive firmware updates from Axis Communications, as both the hardware warranty and software maintenance periods have ended.
Why YourSix Does Not Support EOS Devices
-
- No Firmware Update or Patching: EOS means the device will no longer receive firmware updates or security patches, leaving the camera exposed to newly discovered vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit to gain unauthorized access to the camera or your network.
Disadvantages of Old Devics
-
- Unpatched Vulnerabilities: Once devices reach end-of-life and support ends, new security flaws go unaddressed. Without firmware updates, these vulnerabilities leave devices open to exploitation, allowing attackers to access systems, disrupt operations, or steal sensitive data.
- Silent Failures & Unreliable Performance: Over time, outdated firmware causes bugs and glitches that can lead to critical malfunctions. This may result in missed footage, malfunctioning access controls, or other failures that compromise security and operations.
- Compromised Business Continuity: A single compromised device can serve as an entry point for attackers to infiltrate the network, leading to data breaches, ransomware, or operational disruptions. Cybercriminals target outdated devices for easier, long-term access to systems.
- Regulatory & Compliance Risks: Many industries require up-to-date security systems to meet regulations. Using unsupported devices risks non-compliance, potentially resulting in fines, legal issues, or loss of certification. This can lead to severe financial and reputational damage.
- Reduced Efficiency: Older security devices consume more power and bandwidth due to outdated components and less efficient software. This can lead to higher operational costs, slower performance, and added strain on your network, especially in larger systems, reducing overall efficiency.
Advantages of Updated Devices
-
- Modern Analytics: Updated IP security devices come with advanced analytics features like AI-driven motion and object detection. These tools provide smarter and more accurate threat detection, reducing false alarms and improving response times.
- Increased Efficiency: Newer IP security devices are designed for better resource management, consuming less power and bandwidth while delivering high-quality performance. They offer improved integration with other systems, ensuring seamless operation across multiple devices. This enhanced efficiency reduces operational costs, optimizes network performance, and ensures smoother operation, even in larger, more complex setups.
- Enhanced Security: Updated IP security devices are equipped with the latest security features, including stronger encryption, better authentication methods, and regular firmware updates. These updates address known vulnerabilities, ensuring devices are protected against emerging threats. As a result, updated devices offer robust protection against cyberattacks and unauthorized access, safeguarding both physical and digital assets.
Does YourSix have a list of supported devices?
What occurs if a customer uses unsupported devices on the Y6OS platform?
-
- Devices that are unsupported may connect to the platform and users may still be able to interact with the device, however this will degrade overtime and is not recommended. Unsupported devices will not receive firmware updates that keep the device secure and allow for the device to be fully supported. YourSix recommends unsupported devices be immediately replaced and cannot guarantee any level of support for these devices due to Axis no longer releasing firmware updates
