Maintenance

Once a physical security solution is implemented, customers and integrators need to consider several maintenance aspects, which can be categorized into physical and software maintenance. With YourSixOS as a fully managed system, most software maintenance tasks are taken care of for you.

Physical Maintenance

Regular maintenance is vital for surveillance systems. Conducting physical inspections, in addition to monitoring through YourSixOS, is essential to identify and remove any obstructions that could impair the camera’s field of view. This is especially important for systems using analytics, as even small obstructions like insects or spider webs can trigger false alarms and increase storage usage.

Regularly reviewing the device view via the YourSixOS platform is essential, both during the day and at night. While dirt on the camera lens might not hinder visibility in daylight, it can create reflections in low-light situations, affecting detection accuracy. Nighttime inspections also help confirm adequate lighting conditions and identify any issues, such as burnt-out lights.

YourSix recommends performing quarterly inspections of all devices, including testing through YourSixOS and onsite physical checks. Additional inspections are advised after high winds or storms to ensure that debris isn’t obstructing the view and to verify that the device remains properly positioned. During inspections, check for:

    • Spider webs
    • Insect and bird nests
    • Dirt, pollen, or other material on lenses
    • Proper lighting conditions
    • Confirm device field of view

Software Maintenance

Managed service platforms like YourSix are essential for software maintenance, especially since traditional on-premise solutions often struggle. YourSix automates firmware and patch management for all devices linked to our cloud services, simplifying maintenance and improving system reliability. This ensures that software maintenance is largely handled for you.

However, effective user management is also critical. YourSix recommends implementing SSO to automatically revoke access for departing employees. If SSO is not in use, regular reviews of user accounts in Y6OS should be conducted by an admin of the platform.
